EDM 446: Barking to Gospel Oak electrification

That this House recognises that the Barking to Gospel Oak line is a very valuable part of the rail network; notes that it is the only section of the North London line without electrification; believes that to become an even more effective part of the passenger and freight network it should be electrified; and calls upon the Secretary of State to support this development and to open negotiations with Network Rail and Transport for London to achieve it.

EDM 393: Al Jazeera

That this House congratulates Al Jazeera on its reporting of the crisis in Gaza and being able to broadcast despite Israeli bombardment; and believes its English channel should be made available urgently on the parliamentary estate to enable all hon. Members to be better informed.

Clean Start

On 15 December, 2008, I spoke at New Internationalist’s ‘Clean Start: Building a fairer global economy‘ event, along with Susan George, Walden Bello, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Ann Pettifor and John Hilary and others. The organisations represented included Rainforest UK, UNICEF, London School of  Economics, War on Want, Amnesty International, People and Planet, and World Development Movement.
