EDM 1641: Victor Jara investigation

That this House expresses its condemnation of the proposal in Chile to close the legal investigation into the murder of Victor Jara; notes that those who committed crimes in the former Chile Stadium should not enjoy impunity, since the stadium was under the control of the Chilean armed forces in the days following the military coup when these crimes were committed; and believes that the Chilean courts and Chilean government should now act to ensure that the armed forces hand over information which will enable the officers responsible for the crimes to be identifed and facilitate the continuance of the investigation into this case which is symbolic both for Chile and the world.

The US and EU are crucial to Israel

George Bush, in common with all other outgoing US presidents, is paying a visit to the Middle East. He is going to join in the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. During a rather testing interview on BBC World Service on Tuesday, he seemed to have difficulty in understanding the concept of the Nakba, the violence wreaked upon Palestinians during Israel’s foundation.
